Phwoar! What a day!
We tried to set out a bit later today because we kept getting caught up with the crowds in the last few days so after breakfast at the hostel we made our way to the train at around 10am.
First stop of the day was Meguro and the Parasite Museum. This was a small and free museum that had jars and jars of preserved parasites. It was quite disgusting with the main exhibit being an 8.8m tapeworm.
On our way back to the train station we stopped in at a small shrine, Otori shrine, which had a bit of a Phoenix theme. We think there was a wedding going on there too!
After Meguro we went to Shinjuku and the National Garden. It was a large garden with a modern solar powered greenhouse and different themed areas such as French, English and Japanese. Being as it was Sunday there were quite a few young families there relaxing and enjoying the winter sun.
After the garden we attempted to find some lunch which turned into a bit of a mission. But with one cranky Katie in tow we eventually found a small place to eat some rice bowls.
By this time it was around 2:30pm and we had a dinner and show reservation at 3:30pm so we spent some time finding the restaurant so we'd know where to go. Once we found it we played some games in a nearby arcade and had some coffee and cake at Squall Cafe.
At 3:30pm we set off back to the restaurant and picked up our tickets for the Robot Restaurant. We headed into the show where we sat in school like seats and waited patiently for the show to start.
It's hard to explain the craziness that then ensued. There was dancing, singing, drums, people dressed as robots, remote controlled robots, lasers and music. It was one of the most entertaining 90mins of my life and I spent the whole time laughing and smiling at the shear awesomeness of it all. I would go back again for sure! It was absolutely worth the ¥5000.
We left in high spirits and made our way by train to Ikebukuro where we browsed through some shops before having dinner at a pizza place called Shakey's where I learnt that gherkin and marshmallows absolutely do belong on pizza. Not the same pizza of course.
We are back at the hostel now resting up for another action packed day tomorrow.
