We said goodbye to raining, wet Kochi today and hello to raining, wet Kyoto! The 3 hour or so train ride was relatively uneventful and seemed to go by quickly which was nice.
As I said, it was rainy in Kyoto and we had a bit of a wet walk from the train station to the hostel but fortunately it's not incredibly cold here. Kyoto is such a cool place! It's great to go from small cities such as Kochi and Himeji to a big city like Kyoto. It's a novelty to see other round eyes (tourists) like us and there's so much to do here its hard to know where to start!
We arrived in Kyoto at around 3pm and after checking into the hostel, which is the biggest we've stayed in and seems really great, we found some lunch. Adorably the place we choose had specific "ladies lunch sets" which were basically smaller sized options of the other things. Kawaii!
Because it was raining, the shopping arcade we were in was packed full of people so we had a cramped walk back to the hostel. On the way we stopped at a gaming arcade and Shannon won a prize! On his first go! Then we stopped at a clothes store and bought matching flannel shirts. Oh yes we did!
We then spent a few hours in the hostel common room, washing and drying our clothes and just generally relaxing.
For dinner we searched for and found a place called "Sweets Paradise" where you pay a set price and then you can eat as much sweets (and other food) as you want for 70mins! There were so many sweets! And I discovered that its hard work to eat sweets for long. We enjoyed a mix of cakes before our time was up and then made a rather slow walk back to the hostel.
It's supposed to be a nicer day tomorrow and if it is we will be making our way over to Gingakuji and Kinkakuji, the silver and golden temples, respectively.
