After a bit of a sleep in today we climbed out of bed, dressed and headed out into the surprisingly not so cold Kochi morning. We enjoyed some coffee and chocolate croissants at one of my favourite cafes, Choco Cro.
We then headed over to Kochi castle. We were able to explore the gardens but unfortunately the castle was closed until the new year which was quite a shame as it looked like a very nice understated castle.
A short walk away is the Yamaguchi's former residence which was open and free so we had a look inside. I'm not too sure who the Yamaguchi's are... But I now know where they used to live.
We did some more walking around through a shrine and then back to the downtown area where we came across a market. I found a lovely Phoenix brooch and Shannon bought a 1 yen coin from the Meiji era.
For lunch Shannon had a massive burger and I had some Japanese style fried rice. Yum yum. To work off lunch we played a few games at the arcade and Shannon won a little Totoro keyring.
We are now resting in the hotel. Unfortunately it seems like a lot of stuff in Kochi is closed between now and the new year which has kind of limited what we can do during our stay here. However we are going to try a Kochi speciality tonight for dinner called bonito which is basically very lightly cooked tuna. Should be tasty.
Then tomorrow we head to Kyoto. Yay! I love Kyoto!
