Today is our three year anniversary! Happy anniversary Shannon! To celebrate, kind of, we went to Fukuoka aquarium also known as Marine World.
We moved by train and arrived at the virtually empty Marine World, which was a refreshing change from Osaka aquarium and basically everywhere else in Japan. The aquarium was quite large and they had a good variety of marine life on display. At 1pm we caught the dolphin and sea lion show which was entertaining and impressive. There was one rogue seal, Potto, who would not cooperate and kept sliding off into the tank for a swim. He would then return to his stand for a treat and then slide off again. His instructor went to lead him off the stage and when they got half way down the stairs the seal turned around and raced back up. He was a bit better behaved after that and particularly enjoyed the dancing segment. The dolphins were excellent showmen and there was a small pacific white bellied one that was so sweet. He couldn't reach the same height as the other dolphins but he had terrific hang time on his jumps.
After the aquarium we walked across to a nearby theme park called Wonder World. After we paid our 400 yen to get in we realised it was basically empty and heaps of construction was going on. Apparently it's more of a summer time outing. We made a pretty quick beeline for the exit and luckily arrived at the station at the same time as the train.
For the afternoon we did a bit of shopping and I bought a new phone case and Shannon bought some socks.
After a rest and a bathe we headed out for dinner at Ramen Stadium, an eatery at the top of Canal City that had about 6 different ramen restaurants to choose from. We enjoyed a bowl each, some gyoza and a Japanese highball (whiskey cocktail) before heading to the arcade for some games. Arcade games after dinner seems to be becoming a bit of a tradition.
We were going to go out for some drinks and karaoke tonight but I decided I didn't really feel like it so we are back in the hostel settling in to watch a movie on the iPad. Lovely.
