Happiness Is The Road
We decided to have a rest day today and stay put. This was a really lovely quiet place and it had a nice pool. We had a late brekky and chilled out. We lazed by the pool, had a swim, had lunch. That was all we did until about half four when we decided to go for a walk. There was a walking trail around the edge of the farm through the bush. The lady at reception had said that the walk took about half an hour and that the path followed the perimeter fence around and past some billabongs. She said that there was abundant bird life. It didn't go dark until half five so we thought that we'd have plenty of time. It was a great time of the day to go on the walk as the sun lowering in the sky cast a warm and beautiful glow over the landscape. The walk did indeed take us along the perimeter fence through the most incredible straw coloured land. There were loads of incredible boab trees to look at and not far away in the long grass we could see wallabies hopping and skipping. It was very quiet and peaceful. The land felt particularly spiritual at this time of day. Eventually the walk left the perimeter fence and went past the billabongs. By this time it was quarter past five and with no sign of the caravan park anywhere in sight we started to become a bit worried. The walk was only supposed to take half an hour and we had been going longer than this now at a fairly fast pace. We thought that we might have gone the wrong way. We had a decision to make. Did we carry on and hope we had gone the right way and weren't far away or did we go back the way we had come? It was going to be dark in about fifteen minutes and we didn't want to be lost in the bush so we made the decision to retrace our steps to the perimeter fence. At least when we were there we could find our way back even in the dark. We ran back to the perimeter fence and were very relieved when we got there! The sun was very low on the horizon now and looked beautiful. Luckily Jay had our torch with us in her bag and we used this to get back making sure we didn't leave the fence. After what seemed like ages, but probably wasn't, we saw the twinkling lights of the caravan park. It had been a mad rush in the bush to get back. We were very happy to see our little camper waiting for us with a fridge full of beer! We sat out at the back and downed a couple of cold ones. We thought that our tribulations for the day had now finished but they hadn't, well not for Jay. When she went to have a shower she discovered to her horror that there were frogs in the bogs! It seemed that the little pesky green things enjoyed nothing more than a spot of voyeurism on top of the shower doors. Two of the little green b*****s also swam around in the shower tray with her. Jay is hardcore now and can easily cope with frogs in the bogs! The froggies also liked to play a game of hide and seek. When I went to the loo one of them appeared from under the rim and tried to hop out. It scared me s***less! Ah well..... at least I was in the right place!!
