Happiness Is The Road
The clouds had cleared during the night and when we ventured out to the loo the sky was putting on an incredible show for us. Like last time I was here in November the stars were shining with a crystal clarity. It was spectacular to see. Never have I seen the night sky in such awesome quality as here at Lucky Bay Campground. The fact that it was pitch black here with no artificial light interfering definitely helps. When we opened the camper door we were faced with a wall of the darkest and blackest black you could ever imagine. Until we put our torch on we could see absolutely nothing at all. This was the darkest place we have been to. When we emerged in the morning though the clear sky had gone. It was cloudy but thankfully not wet. We were hoping to see kangaroos on the beach today. The gorgeous kangaroos were definitely about today as they were hopping around near the amenities when I went to have a shower. It was an extremely refreshing cold shower though and certainly woke me up for the day. The showers here are solar powered and due to the lack of sunshine yesterday the hot water was non existent. We had brekky to the sound of the crashing surf and then we went on a walk around the coast. We wandered down to the beach first but the kangaroos weren't there. The walk then took us up from the beach onto the headland and then around to the next bay along, Thistle Cove, which was about three kilometres away. The scenery we saw on the way was very dramatic as we walked the path and scrambled over rocks. It is good for the soul to be outdoors amongst nature with the wind blowing your hair, the birds singing and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks. This national park is a very powerful and majestic place. Thistle Cove was another beautiful little bay with turquoise waters and pristine white sand. We sat on the rocks here watching the sea for ages before walking and rock scrambling back to the campground. The final part of the walk took us back to the beach at Lucky Bay. We turned a corner and there suddenly below us we could see two kangaroos hopping along the beach. It was a wonderful sight to see for us both but even more so for Jay as she hadn't seen roos on the beach before. We quickly took the path down to the beach and managed to catch up with the gorgeous roos. One of them had a cute joey in her pouch. They were very tame and were happy to be stroked. We had a lovely time being with them. We never tire of seeing these incredible and beautiful animals. We had some lunch back at the camper and then chilled out for the rest of the day. We saw more kangaroos later on as they hopped back onto the campground. We slept again to the wonderfully relaxing sound of the surf feeling very lucky to be at Lucky Bay.
