We got up early in the morning to head off to Australia zoo that we had seen on the way up to rainbow beach. This opened up at 9 so we got there just in time for it to open. On the way up there while Seumas was driving I decided to brush my teeth. When I had finished i leant out the window and forgetting I had my sunglasses on, had then fly straight off my face. As we were on the motorway we sadly couldn't stop and pick them up. This is the 3rd pair I've lost on my gap year...
The zoo is a really brilliant zoo! All the park staff are really friendly and seumas and I are in love with steve irwin so that was also awesome. We spent the day from 9 to 12:30 there before we had to head off to see Antonia. We watched the crocodile show before leaving and it was really brilliant to see. There was also a birds show just before which was great.
I drove to Antonias while Seumas navigated. She was working on a farm in the middle of nowhere which was pretty awesome. We decided to take some back roads to where she was because it would be quicker. We started to go up a smaller one and the road looked good towards the beginning but then it got grassy. This grass then turned into mud with huge crevices that not even a 4x4 could get down. We then had to turn around and find a tarmac road. When we finally got there, we had a look underneath the car to find that a plastic pannel was falling off and grass was stuffed everywhere underneath.
Antonia then showed us up and fixed it for us with some superglue and duct tape, the perfect combination. It was so brilliant to see her again and so weird to see her in the middle of nowhere in Australia! She was getting quite lonely by herself because the family she was with and most people around were 'different'. The ozzie word for them is Bogons.
We went for a walk in a beautiful forest and had a massive long catch up before going back for a BBQ. We found the family very friendly and they were so kind to give us a meal and park our van in their driveway. later on Antonia came with us back to the car and we all squashed in to watch some arrow so we wouldn't wake the kids up in the house. We talked for a very long time afterwards then we all fell asleep there.
Waking up early for the long drive ahead wasn't so bad after a short amount of sleep supprisingly. Antonia had to be up as well because of her work so it worked out quite well. We had a quick breakfast, sorted out the car then said goodbye. She is going to be there for another 2 months to earn money so she can do some trip like Fraser or the Whitsundays. She's a great person to meet up with and definately see her in the UK!
It was a long drive. We started at 7:30 with some coffee then drove up the coast. We swapped drivers over a lot so no one would get tired and had a cheeky power nap at midday. Overall we spent 13 hours on the road! Very glad to get some sleep after that drive! Some of it was very nice driving but others was just nothing. We didn't mind that at all because we had lots of sing along songs provided by Kristina (Seumas' sister) and then books for the passenger.
