We crossed the line at 2.06pm this afternoon. It was a tie! Although Greg did cross the line first!! After several phone calls and texts I can confirm that there are no words that can adequately describe how we feel.
We left this morning with approximately 18 miles to go. Our first stop was in Penzance where Greg had found a Barber to cut JTs hair. A couple of weeks ago we were sponsored £50 if JT finished minus his beard! As if running John O'Groats to Land's End wasn't enough! Leah was lovely and did a great job, refused to charge and topped up our water bottles before we left. A customer Terry (who had seen our van near Bristol!) also made a contribution to Cure Parkinson's.
On our second session Tomo caught us up and stopped at intervals to pipe us onwards to the finish. Our last break was 4 miles from the end. Time to gather our thoughts, eat a little and change.
With blue sky, warm sunshine and just a slight breeze to cool us - we could not have asked for a more perfect day - what a gift.
Greg drove ahead to the finish and JT and I set off for the last time. We covered the last 4 miles in just 34:38.
A beautiful way to finish - with the sea glistening on either side.
It wasn't long before we heard the pipes and saw the Finish - with Greg, Maz, Helen, and of course Tomo. We jumped the line together!
I thought we'd drink the champagne but Greg had other ideas. I'm so glad I asked him to make sure it was cold for the finish! Still it cooled us down after the run!!
We hugged, had pics taken and drank what remained of the bottle before heading for the signpost and our official finish photo.
Job done we had a wonderful champagne and strawberry and pasty picnic thanks to Maz, Helen and Tomo and got our final stamp for our official membership of the End to End Club (certificate to follow!)
Tonight we celebrate - no one is driving!
860 miles, height gain and lost equal to 3 times up and down Everest. Fellow Heathens we challenge you!
Greg is claiming the record for the slowest End to End Campervan Drive - to be ratified...
Congratulations one and all. A superb team effort. We could not have done it without the support of each and every one of you - THANK YOU.
Tomorrow we head home. It's going to seem very strange.
Sincerely hope you all enjoyed the show. 'Til next time...
