We started from the campsite today. Just 30 metres from the campervan. We took pics and said goodbye to our new cyclist friends and watched them head off towards John O'Groats and what promised to be a very wet day. We then headed off in the opposite direction minus our jackets for only the second time in nearly 3 weeks. No major conurbations to navigate today so we just relaxed into the road that took us due south towards Witchurch where we were due to meet Simon Parsons - a vice president of Blackheath & Bromley Harriers who now lives there and was keen to run part of the way with us.
We made good time today, but the running didn't come easy. By the time we met Simon, a couple of miles outside the town my foot was struggling so sadly we walked most of the way to the van for our break (sorry Simon) It was great catching up and sharing experiences while we refuelled, then Simon generously escorted us through the town and made sure we were on the right road for our final leg of the day.
We were keen to get to the campsite because JT's brother in law Lester and his wife (Lester's not John's) Chris were waiting to see us.
We had a bit of excitement on arrival. We were asked to park on the grass, but as soon as we did the wheels sank into the lawn, so the owner had to pull us out with his tractor. Every campsite should have one! We've certainly left a lasting impression here!
Fun over, JT went out for a meal with Lester & Chris, and Greg and I enjoyed a lads night in with Top Gear. Life is almost normal!
540 down 320 to go!
Sorry for lateness of blog - written but couldn't send last night - no signal.
