Difficult to know how to start writing up a day like today.
As soon as we took our first step today the distance to go became less than 500 miles! 499 sounds so much better than 500!
After 6 miles we passed through Ecclefechan (and yes we took a picture) The locals drop the Eccle (true) so as we ran through the town we passed the Fechan Library, then the Fechan Pub, the Fechan Police Station and finally the Fechan School. This has to be my favourite town of all time and I am starting a campaign to get it twinned with Peckham!
We took a short break after 10 miles before heading for Gretna Green and the border. Greg let us down twice here. Firstly - much to our disappointment upon arrival at the Blacksmith's Forge, we discovered that he'd failed to publish our banns. So we elected just to have a photo but - no Greg. We saw Karen and John, a couple walking towards us so I asked if they would be kind enough to take a picture...turned out they were returning to the Smithy to mark their 3rd wedding anniversary.
Just as we finished Greg turned up on his bike - took a photo of THEM and then piloted us towards what can only be described as the least visual border crossing in the world (not that it mattered to us.) 13 days, 375 miles and we have run a country!
So wonderful to be back in Blighty.
We pressed on through Carlisle and just out the other side to our campsite. What a day - but it wasn't over yet. Sue (my wife) had searched the internet and found a sports physiotherapist who had experience of End to Enders and not only understood their determination not to stop, but was also willing to drive out to our campsite after clinic hours to sort out my foot problems. Her name is Kathryn but I've christened her the Angel of the North. In addition to making sure there is no fracture she worked the foot and calves and taped the foot so that it won't move in the wrong way when I run. Keep icing, elevating and walking the hills and all should be ok. What an angel - the Angel of the North.
All in all - a great day.
Tomorrow - Shap...

Sue Peter - sorry it nit pick but you publish 'banns'
Sue Oh yes and Mrs Brown says, that's a fechan too many fechans for her fechan liking!
Andy T Surely Fechan should be twinned with Hell? Aren't you glad you decided to run in the spring when the weather is so much nicer..... Just got back from a wet Sunday morning run round Biggin Hill and the diagonals. That was more than enough for me. You two knocking out 30 milers every day in this weather is a serious achievement. Still reckon you are as mad as a box of frogs.
Steve Forsdick Must have been pretty special crossing the boarder and knocking off a country (don't let the Scots hear you say your glad to be back in Blighty, you have been here all the time, not just Sue being picky). Fechan Peckham sounds like a wonderful place. Keep it up and tick of the counties now.
Simon Parsons Been following your amazing progress as you approach my homeland. Gald to hear you can put your passports away now. I'm still aiming to join you both for the run into Whitchurch on the 10th. I'll be in touch on the 9th to check the whens and the wheres.
Cliff Keen I can see this being made into a film in the future - who would you like to play you ? Looking forward to the next dramatic scene.
