Sunday 27th June Cairns

A full on day today starting at the Pjakupai Aboriginal centre at 9am andarriving back at the van park at 6.30pm.The Aboriginal centre is very interesting especially when we went outside for the boomerang throwing etc.They did have problems lighting a fire with firesticks but managed eventually without having to resort to a lighter.There is a restaurant there and a 3 course buffet meal looked good value but we had a $5 sandwich and $10 afternoon tea between us.After our extravagant meal we had a ride out to Palm Beach and a walk along the beautiful beach. Our last stop was Cairns for our first look at the esplanade and beach.What a shock, we had been told the beach is mud but we had forgotten and looked for a beautiful sandy beach what a disappointment.The esplanade is good but the lagoon is closed for renovation.We were surprised how quiet everything was today and how most of the accommodation is begging for customers. Tomorrow is an early start for the trip to the Barrier Reef.The weather forecast is good but the sea conditions are described as choppy bring on the Kwells.
