Weds 23rd June
We had a look around Bowen this morning starting at Flagstaff Hill which at the moment is a building site at the top where there is supposed to be facilities, an interpretive centre etc.The town guide said it was ready but looking at the workforce of 2 men and a trowel it is difficult to see if it will be ready this year. The upgrade of the main beach is also way behind schedule. Bowen is a rather scruffy place, obviously they are trying to improve it but there is a lot more work to be done. Although we have been to Townsville we decided to spend a couple of hours there and get some exercise walking along the waterfront. The weather was perfect until a very strong wind which had been forecast blew in and nearly blew us off our feet. The view from Castle Hill is worth the drive up there.
We are in Ingham for the night and decided to eat a proper meal at the motels restaurant. We were surprised when we went in to find a very nice place and we felt a bit underdressed in shorts and t-shirts. There was a short shower of rain about 8 o'clock the first this trip. We are now in new territory to us so tomorrow we begin exploring.
