Weds. 30th June
Joe fancied breakfast at McDonalds ?? I will leave you to ponder on that.
The tourist brochures claim the drive from Cairns to Port Douglas is the most scenic in Australia and it is spectacular. We stopped for our picnic on a lovely little beach which we had all to ourselves and at the Rex lookout we watched tandem skydiving. We have stopped at the cliffs near Philips at Mount Tamborine where people skydive many times but we have never seen any one actually setting off so today was a treat and I was able to capture the take off on video.
We detoured to Port Douglas for the afternoon and it's easy to see why so many people prefer it to Cairns. The beach is beautiful with lots of activity and the shops and cafes are very upmarket. We didn't stay in the town because a. the prices are exorbitant and b. the accommodation is mainly apartments and because we are in our own car we are carrying loads of stuff most of it unnecessarily and we don't fancy taking all that up to an apartment. We are in a motel at Mossman and it is quite good it even has a wardrobe which is rare in a motel.
Joe had another food fantasy when he realised the motel has a bbq and he fancied a steak with coleslaw and salad not easy to produce in a motel room. I think we will leave it to the on site restaurant tomorrow.
Tomorrow is Cape Tribulation which Captain Cook named because he got stuck on the reef there and the Daintree rainforest where there is a forest canopy tower and walk.
