Buona sera! Had an amazing two days of sunshine here and not a cloud in sight! Went to see circo massimo on Saturday morning, which was disappointing. There's not much left of the original area where they used to hold chariot races - although I think they'd make a lot of money from hiring chariots to tourists to race. Health and safety doesn't exist in Italy so it'd be perfect! No...? Perhaps not.
Bocca della Verita, made famous by the film 'Roman Holiday', was next on the itinerary. Surrounded by Japanese tourists screaming, I turned into one of those typical tourists who gets their picture taken with the hand in the mouth (hence the picture above!).
Next door, Isola Tiberina, an island in the middle of the river Tiber, has a hospital run by monks and used to host a temple to the Greek god Asclepius, god of healing. Trastevere, a gorgeous area of Rome, with winding streets and copious amounts of pizzerias, gelaterias, churches, and piazzas had eluded us until we happened upon it purely by accident. I love how you can walk around the corner of a random street in Rome and end up in the most beautiful piazza or at a tourist attraction you didn't realise was so close!
Lastly, we finally booked our train tickets for Florence and Naples - so excited about David and Pompeii! I love planning trips...
