Despite my delight at the prospect of an 'all-you-can-eat' breakfast, for 3,50 euros it was abysmal! Never mind... we hopped on the train to Pisa which took an hour and I took the time to write some postcards. Unfortunately the train station in Pisa is about 40 minutes walk from the centre, where the cathedral, leaning tower, and all assorted market stalls are - selling anything from leaning tower lamps to David aprons!
With much grumbling from Phil - something about being a typical tourist - I held up the leaning tower for a photo requiring all my strength! Deciding that 15 euros was a ridiculous price to pay to climb the tower, we wandered off in search of food and coffee, which we found in a little cafe blasting out some rubbish on MTV - it seems you can't escape American tripe TV in Europe!
Conforti, one of the librarians at the University had warned that regional trains (local) were absolutely rubbish and late all the time. Just as was singing praises about them, trains to and from Pisa were canceled. I was slightly concerned we would miss our train back to Rome, but a train came in an hour and a half later, and although slightly panicked (perhaps I'm being a bit of drama queen!), we got back in time.
I was thoroughly delighted to find that the 'Gelateria Perche No!' was open and had a chocolate, coffee and cream ice-cream cone, consumed in Piazza della Signoria as the sun was setting. After a quick dander back to the ponte vecchio, we headed back to the train station and onto our train back to Rome, which is exactly where I am now, with such sore legs and feet. Straight to bed when we get home I think for a good night's sleep. I'm also glad to say the weather was amazing for the whole duration of time we were in Tuscany.
I still can't believe we're actually over in Italy! Far too random even for me... Buona sera! x
