Jackpot! It was sunny today and I took full advantage by heading to the park again to read my book. It's funny to watch all the Italians walking their dogs and couples lazing on the grass...
A far cry from yesterday, when we went to Ostia Antica, as it rained all day. Ostia Antica is a very well preserved excavation of an ancient Roman town and was recommended to us by the University staff. The site has become a bit dilapidated and although it was nice to see, it is a bit far from town and probably not worth the effort if you have something else to see.
Italians (apparently) like to stand around doing nothing most of the time - When walking around it's quite normal to see people randomly standing on the corner of a street (especially older people) staring at you at you walk along. I find it rather amusing... if a bit odd! Also the guide book and the people at the University say it's frustrating trying to get anything done in Italy as everything happens so slowly. They advise people to use the Vatican Post Office as it is much more efficient than the Italian one.
Phil and I are off to an Italian laundrette tonight - nothing is ever going to dry in this flat as it's far far too cold! I think the place was designed to keep the heat out in the summer and obviously this philosophy doesn't really work for the winter! Anyway the laundrette should be a fun experience!!!
