Day 11 - All hail the Professor...
Not a particularly exciting day to report back on today, went to hospital this morning and had to hang around in the Gynae clinic to meet the professor who will be signing our forms! This is the head consultant of obs and Gynae, and he is worshiped and treated like a god by the medical students and staff! All the medical students appear to be terrified of him and stand to attention and freeze when he comes near.. They were horrified at the fact that we just went up to him and spoke to him and had a laugh and joke like with any normal person! Very bizzare hierarchical behaviour, very different to at warwick uni! We sorted a meeting for next week to get our forms signed. During the clinic we did some vaginal/speculum examinations, Rachel and Catherine changed a pessary which is a rubber ring used to treat prolapses.
Finished at about lunch time and got a taxi to a beach we had heard of that was meant to be nice.. However when we got there we couldn't find the place were looking for so ended up walking miles in the boiling midday sun... Not a good idea, ending up back at unawatuna, which was fine, we had a roti for lunch, went in the sea and sat on the beach. At about 4ish we headed to sahanna beach for another surf, the waves were massive today!!
We have started a bad habit of wanting ice cream after every dinner! We've found this really cute family run home made ice cream shop called 'dairy king', the ice creams are incredible, lots of interesting flavours, today we had mango, crunchy cashew and mint choc chip, delicious!
