Day 4 - Nothing upsets us more than a disappointing meal..

Woke up to bright blue skies! Beautiful morning so took our beach stuff to hospital with us so we could hit the beach straight away in the afternoon!

Spent an hour or so walking back and forth from ward to clinic trying to find something good to get involved in (again something's do not change from England), settled in the end to watch a birth.. Along with 20 other students and a consultant who pulled up a plastic garden chair and sat right between the mothers legs to get the best view of the show. He gave us a running commentary of what was happening in between taking mobile phone calls while pushing down on the mothers tummy, it was quite surreal! This lady ofcourse had an episiotomy but enough pain relief was given this time, thankfully!

We then went over to the ante-natal clinic where we had our own queue of 30 ladies to examine! We played guess the age of the baby bump! Afterward the doctor asked if we found any problems or if any were of an abnormal size, we hesitantly agreed and he discharged them!

Enough work done..beach time! All 4 of us squashed Into a tuk tuk and went to unawatuna beach which was gorgeous, we went straight in the sea and spent the afternoon sunbathing and reading with a banana milkshake yum!

The day ended with a very disappointing dinner, as I am sure you are all aware food is A very high priority to us on this trip and we thought we'd treat ourselves to a more expensive ( well £4) meal overlooking the lighthouse in a recommended restaurant but were sorely disappointed, the drinks were warm and curries cold! We had an ice cream on the way home to cheer us up :)
