Day 10 - Happy 27th Birthday Rachel!!

Big day today.. Rachel's birthday!
Unfortunately we did have to go to hospital, it had been organised for us to go into the community to a clinic, we met one of the young doctors at the medical school and had to get 2 buses into a small village, we thought she knew where she was going... She didn't.. And neither did the bus driver, so we got off the bus and had to walk a few km in the boiling heat In a rural village to find this clinic, I don't think the residents had seen many white people, we appeared to be quite the attraction parading down the street!! When we arrived at the clinic it was a small room with no fans full of pregnant women or women with their small children attending for check ups /vaccines, it was a largely Muslim clinic so at first we felt a little uneasy about wearing vest tops and long skirts but they were all very friendly and smiled.. A smile goes a long way in Sri Lanka when you can say anything! We observed what they did at the clinic the left.

We went home and had a much needed shower and got ready for high tea at Amangalla hotel in galle fort, it is the top hotel In Sri Lanka with room prices starting at $800 per night where 'Sting' has stayed in the past as well as other famous folk!! Someone recommended we try the afternoon tea so we treated rachel for her birthday, it was so yummy, scones with cream and jam, sandwiches, cakes, pastries and Sri Lankan tea, we took our time and spent all afternoon there!!

We headed back to the hostel where we played cards on the balcony then met Nadine and went for some drinks, we Had 2 nice bottles of sparkling twine to celebrate.. Quite extravagant day but why not...Big happy birthday to Rachel :)
