Day 5 - A Warwick University reunion in Sri Lanka
Gave ourselves a day off from hospital today as we have to go in on Saturday morning, nice to not have to set the usual 6.30am alarm! Catherine had to make the trek back to Colombo to sort her india visa so me Jess and rach went to unawatuna beach for the day, we went around 10am and had a late Sri Lankan breakfast of hoppers which is like a bowl shaped pancake which you can have with fruit or egg or meat.
Basically spent the day lying in the sun reading and taking regular dips in the sea to cool off! It was super hot today and apparently getting hotter this week. We did a spot of shopping, I got some travellers trousers and we bought lots of passion fruits from an amazing fruit stall, we tried bargaining with the shop keepers.. This needs a little more practice!
When we got back to the guesthouse, 3 other Warwick students arrived, Yasmin, Jessica and Julian, they have been in Colombo at hospital but have got signed off already some how so their travelling has started and they are down here for a week. They coincidently had booked the same guesthouse, so 12 of us are here in galle and we all went out for dinner together which was good, the place we went to set up a table in their lounge to fit us all in! Then we went to pilgrims for a few beers.
On the way home from the bar me and rach left separately, we tried to look out to sea at the thunderstorm in the distance but a pack of dogs started chasing us we panicked (as both of us hadn't got rabies jabs and a girl we know got bitten last week) and jumped off a wall... A local found this terribly amusing but did jump to help and threw stones at them! We will not be attempting to get on the fort wall at night time again.. Lesson learnt!!
