Day 1 - Half way around the world and still waiting hours for a consultant...
First full day complete, had a lovely breakfast cooked by Sita including fresh fruit, omelette, toast and pancakes! The other 5 girls from Warwick who are staying in our hostel had arrived during the night so we ate with them then got tuk tuk rides altogether to the medical school.
We had to go to the obs and Gynae department and watch some introductory power points and videos followed by a short teaching session. Then proceeded to wait in a hot sweaty corridor for well over an hour to meet the head professor.... It appears some things do not change in any country! He was lovely though and gave us our timetable and it sounds like we can get really involved on the wards.
We were then told To go and have lunch in the medical school cafeteria which was an experience.. We were the only white faces in the whole canteen so obviously were stared at like animals in a zoo, and they did not give out any cutlery! So we had to eat curry with our hands!! It was quite an experience and we didn't really quite get the hang of it.. How do you eat rice with your hands?!? But to have a big lunch fruit salad and a drink for 50p can't complain too much!
Once we were finished we decided to stick to living like locals and attempt a bus journey home, the buses here are really pretty all multi-coloured, ours appeared to be quite the 'party bus' with decorative flowers, loud music and a music video on at the front... Very random!
For the evening we attempted to be good a read a little obs and Gynae this lasted all of about 1/2 hr then we went for dinner which was so tasty, a taster menu of 10 curries and rice for £2.50 each! It's all so cheap!
Tomorrow is our first day In the hospital!
