Up at 08:30 we got ready& headed over to the international school for football. When we arrived the manager stated we had 21players for today's game which was almost unheard of.
Scotty started in centre midfield but had to come off in the first half with a knee injury. At half time it was 1-1. I made by one off appearance for Bishop Mckensies Old Boys & staff (BOBS) with 25mins remaining in place of Scottu's mate George who I met a few times. Playing in the heat was unlike anything I had experienced before & trying to breath & run took some getting used too. We managed to create some sustained pressure and started to get balls into the box. It was this that led to what proved to be our winning goal. We took a short corner which was swung into the box by our right back & at the back post I headed home. We survived a penalty when there best player blasted wide. I struck the crossbar with a half volley from the edge of the box & we hung on to win a closely fought game.
We went for a couple of beers as a team in quite different settings to what I'm used to. We sat in swing chairs by a pool in glorious sunshine at one of the backpacking establishments in Lilongwe. No free pizzas though!
Back at Scotty's house he made some lunch before we went to Breeze for the rest of the day. Louis had lost a bet & was attempting to drink one of everything behind the bar. When he made this bet I don't think he had realised how many drinks this would entail. It worked out to approximately 46drinks. As he started the challenge the rest of the lads from football & I settled in for a leisurely afternoon watching football. By the end of another Newcastle defeat Louis had managed around half the drinks & had to go home. We all decided to call it a night then.
A very football orientated day as one day a weekend should be.
