We got to have a lie in today as the cooking class didnt start till 10am, but the heat still woke us at 6. This place is horrible and lizards come through among other creatures so that you dont really want to go back to sleep when you can see them crawling everywhere. We had some breakfast at the hostel and then headed off. He was waiting for us at the restaurant and we went straight to the local market which absolutley stunk, I tried not to think about the fact our meat was bought from there everyday no matter what place you ate at. Then we went back to the restaurant and put on aprons and hats- Dans head was too big to put the hat on and the Cambodians laughed at him.
Our first dish was chicken spring rolls, for our second Ii chose a beef curry and Dan chose fish amok. The weather was too hot for me and I nearly fainted so the woman cooked most of mine! Dan did all his though; grounding up all the spices etc. We were suprised to find that we could buy everything easily at home. Next we made desert I made a green bean desert and Dan a banana one - they were essentially the same. Then after we cooked we sat down to eat but there was so much food we barely made a dint in the portions and felt bad having to leave most of it - hopefully the familly finished it off.
After that we headed back to the hostel and decided to go to the floating village as there was nothing else to do and it is just too hot even to sit infront of a fan. The tuk tuk ride there took 20 mins and it was nice having the hot breeze in our faces we got to go into the countryside and see how people live there with wooden houses built on stilts. Then we took a boat ride on the lake to see the people living on it. They were poor but they had everything they needed on the lake including schools and a church! it was pretty interesting seeing people who will hardly ever come onto land going about their daily lives on the water. We came back and bought a bus ticket to Phnom Penh for the next day then decided to look through the night market and finally found somewhere to eat and we got a khmer frog to eat which was quite yummy. Cambodian food is really good, and not spicy. We had a wander round and then went to bed for yet another early start.
