This Aires is described as pleasant and it was. It is next to a small marina and a big park. There some horses in the area next to me for riding. It is a pity that I am useless at horse riding. I was thinking about staying there when a couple in a van there made friendly overtures which made me the decision easy. They were from Portugal and fruit picking in France to earn some money.
After I had set up the van I took Sacha for a walk in the park. 3 big dogs came rushing up to her and there was a scrap which was really frightening. I told them that they need to keep their dogs under control but they didn't care. They were dressed like a circus act with tattoos and piercings all over.
Later a young French chap came over to ask about camping with a tent. He was walking the length of the Loire to the source. He was charming and spoke good English. He did camp next to another tent which turned out to belong to the Portuguese couple and was empty as it was used by her father when he visited them. So really it was their spare room!
I set of the next day for Fourgeres as from there I could go either way for the ferry for Roscoff or Cherbourg.
At a McDonalds using their wifi I checked the bookings and asked my son to book the Roscoff ferry for the 14th as it was Bastille day and there would be huge celebrations and, of course, fireworks which freak Sacha out. Good time to leave.
I am now in Cobourg which I only went to to fill up with diesel. The tank was showing empty but it had lasted for 820 miles which is very good going.
I filled up at Super U at 127€ which thought was good. I enquired regarding a vet and was told it was near Intermarche. The vet was good and did the necessary for the dog passport i.e give a worming tablet and check her chip. She also squeezed out her swollen anal glands( ouch), yet only charged 23€ which is half of the normal cost.
The city had a good feel about it with everyone so helpful I decided to stay in the Municipal Campsite. Again a great location next to a lake, a small wood and open playing fields. Yet it is walking distance to the centre with its grand Chateau where the romantic writer Chateaubriand lived and it is still owned by the family.
The city is also a centre for cycling.
I am parked under a tree which has long bean pods and in the night they kept tapping the top of the van which was annoying.
My ticket had been arranged for 14th but have just had a message to warn me that the Tour de France is in Roscoff that day so there will be traffic jams and difficulty with parking. On top of that where you can usually park at the ferry port is closed for campers.
We shall see!
