The day started well enough. After the usual protracted goodbyes I set off for an aires to save money. I chose Challones sur Loire in the direction of home.
Pleasant journey despite mixed weather which at first took me through the centre with many lakes. We know why there are lakes! We stopped beside one for a picnic.
It was all cross country or through little villages. I had driven 250 kms and was looking forward to arriving at Challones sur Loire. Just 5 kms to go I found myself on a farm track. I carried on thinking it had to go somewhere and the sat nav said to go on and to turn right after 300 metres so I thought it would be back on the road then. It became more rutted and the grass in the middle more high. I felt that I had reached the point of no return so carried on. At one time I was driving across a huge field in amongst the bales of hay. There was no building in site. Really it was a nightmare as I just wanted to stop. When I eventually emerged at a place that I had gone through before I stupidly decided to follow sat nav instructions thinking that I had missed a turning. It took me straight to the track again.
Going back it was telling me to turn round all the time and I was shouting back at her.
Using the map and sign post directions I found the spot but she - the sat nav was still telling me to turn around. I don't know what went wrong but it was pretty serious.
The aires was pleasant enough but I was told the next morning that I was in the wrong place.
All along the Loire River there are beautiful cycle tracks. I am finding that to take the bike out of the van strains my torn shoulder muscle so we just walked along the track.
I texted my son to arrange the ferry ticket but he was busy at work and couldn't do it until the next day or so.
