We have made it to Bogota. The journey was very long and slow . There has been torrential rain here and this has destroyed a lot of the main highways and made it difficult to get from one place to another, especially as we have been crossing the Andes.we are currently at 3000 metres and it is sunny and hot one minute and then pouring the next!!!!!! We are staying at the home of an American Columbian and everyone is so friendly and welcoming it is unbelievable. Yesterday we met up with lots of other members of the Landrover club of columbia and we were taken out for lunch and went for a drive through amazing countryside around Bogota. This country is so very pretty with it's rolling mountains and lush countryside.we have met with some wonderful people who are so friendly and try to help you . We pulled into a garage yesterday and within seconds a passing driver had got out to ask if we needed help and then she used her phone to ring the person we were trying to meet up with and wouldn't leave us until she was sure we were sorted. This is so contrary to popular perception of this country, but the army and police are everywhere and really helpful. We have never felt threatened in any way.
We have been so thrilled to hear of Francesca and Adams engagement and have had a drink to toast them and wish them well.
Today we are going to visit a salt cathedral and then to a place where they make the best ice cream ever apparently!!!!!!!should be fun. We will be heading north next and we are still trying to organise our crossing from Cartagena to Colon in Panama.
Will write again soon.
