Despite sleeping on a bed definitely designed for one, we actually had a decent nights sleep. First stop however, as always, was coffee.
For this, we drove over to Fat Frog by the beach front for coffee and brunch... sustenance required for our upcoming activity for the day. It was a lovely little coffee shop with a chilled vibe, and Amy Winehouse as the exclusive music selection. (The old Aussie ladies in the corner were loving it... Singing along and everything!)
A swift drive back to Kipara, our budget resort, where the Salty Dog Kayak people picked us up.
Once we were at Shute Ha-Arbour, a friendly German called Lion (?!) took us out sea kayaking around the Whitsundays for 3 hours or so. There were only 8 people in the group, and we all shared 2 person kayaks. Included was snorkelling and snacks.
Pushing out to sea, the water was so incredibly shallow in places, and absolutely still. You could see all the coral underneath, so our hunt for a sea turtle was on! The sea was a gorgeous blue / turquoise in the deeper areas, but overall it was simply stunning scenery. Moving between a few of the 76 (?) Islands, we slowly journeyed to White Island.
Once we arrived at White Island, we snorkelled just around the rocks for the fishes and turtles. The water was much less clear than when we snorkelled out in the reef near Cairns, but there were plenty of fishies to see never the less.
Munching on some fruit and cheese & crackers laid on by the tour, there were a few minutes to wander around the Island. The beach neither pebbles or sand... Instead dead Coral! Sounded liked broken glass as you walked across it.
Pushing out back to sea - and still in the beating sun - we made our way back to Shute Harbour. On the way, Whilst Alice was telling Lion all about Jersey, Lion spotted a turtle... But we only caught but a fleeting glimpse of it. Alice proceeded to chant "Jersey, Jersey!" to the turtles... But to no avail.
Returning back to the Harbour, we were driven hot and sticky back to our budget resort, where we chilled out for an hour or so.
We then decided to drive back into town for din dins. Although our first choice was closed (...will go there tomorrow for coffee!), the second choice, Fish D'vine, was actually pretty divine. I made up for not having chilli crab in Singapore by ordering chilli bug, and Alice sampled Barramundi. Very Australian fare!
Then home for telly and bed!
