Got up leisurely (it's a Sunday after all) and got the bus shuttle into town with the intention to start looking for car rentals. First stop however, was Cairns' number 2 rated coffee shop - re:hab...
...where we also had a brekkie burger. Which was incredible.
Straight to the mall to sit down somewhere with WIFI and sort our rental car. Again, finding WIFI is/was just SO difficult. Eventually however, we had to settle on the Gloria Jean's coffee shop where we went to on our first morning in Cairns (rubbish coffee).
There we settled on Hertz (there was a 20% Discount on hires over a week) and reserved a car for tomorrow. A Toyota Corolla no less. Looks very shiny. This is part of our new plan to drive down to Brisbane in a nice car, and air bnb it on the way. A campervan sleep in the Tropics would NOT be fun we reasoned! RV for December then.
After this we went to Coles and K Mart to purchase essential BBQ equipment and foodies to cook for lunch. We had been very lucky a couple of days ago, scrounging off the locals for tin foil, cooking oil etc... this time we were going to do it right! And to cart around all our new public BBQ stuff (and keep our food cool) we bought Brendan Cole(s)...
Anyway, we cooked halloumi burgers on the sea front, battling the gale force winds. It was heroic, and I think the locals were impressed. Against all the odds, we made these bad boys.
...and made some effort of cleaning the BBQ... (Yes, it supposed to be silver, like the surrounding areas)
To relax after our successful luncheon, a quick dip in the pool where Bailhache helped teach me breast stroke. Which was much easier after I had been in the Reef Ocean yesterday and not drowned!
Then back to hostel to sort out accommodation in Port Douglas for the next 2 nights plus out shiny new car.
It promises much. Below is an verbatim quote.
"...pillows made from hand picked clouds and white sheets seen by angels..."
Let's see, eh?
