Rising after our bnb ppl have gone to work (the wife keeps waking us up with her early morning smoothy making...), we fix up scrambled eggs and baked beans we procured from Woolworths last night. Tasty and cheap!
Then off to a coffee place to plan... today is the day we look to arrange an RV for our trip back down to Sydney!
Topping up our go card and heading into town on our trusty no 60 bus, I buy all four Hitchhikers Guides to the Galaxy. My New Years resolution will be to read more, and what better way to start here with Bailhache forcing me to read this easy (but very English) novel!
Passing St Pauls Catholic Church, Alice saw another book shop, where she thought she might be able to buy Bill Bryson's Australia book. No Bryson however was found here, unsurprisingly.
We then spotted a Commonwealth Bank, and In order to steal their wifi, had another coffee at a Campos Coffee outlet was right outside it. It's at moments like this we feel somewhat student...
Continuing the student theme, lunch was a woolies special. Asian salad, cheese and bacon pizza roll... And a Chicko roll. This was formally an Australian institution, but we've been told that they're not as good as they've used to be. This one was pretty disgusting. A deep fried, chewy, mutton spring roll, basically.
A quick visit to the Brisbane information centre, was a nice surprise. Housed in a former grand 'moving picture house' the building was incredible. They just don't make cinemas like they used to.
Having popped into Myers, a department store in order to try and feel Christmassy (we failed), we go to the Queensland State Library to use their free internet and book our short RV trip down to Sydney.
As we were already on the SouthBank (which looks even more like London in the evening), we decided to keep date night here, and went for a couple of burgers by the river. During which, Alice conducts the final cramming session of the synopsis of Les Mis. I'm now ready. Something about a baguette?? A Jean Pierre??
Les Miserables was fabulous. We had gone for the slightly more expensive seats, but the chap who sold them to us had successfully guided us to the best side of the stage for key moments. I have to say, that as a music snob, I wasn't completely convinced. But this new staging -courtesy of its 25th anniversary - was very vivid. The set and costumes were a no expense spared effort, also.
Our biggest issue with the performance was actually the air con! ...and now it was too cold!!! Honestly... We are so fussy!
And that was it for the day. Another successful date night. :-)
