Hey,
Ended up coming into town this weekend after all. Have lots to tell you about so here it goes...
Started off on monday when we got back from Puerto, we found a nest of baby rats in the bin in our kitchen, the mother must´ve just given birth to them over the edge and left them. Unfortunately for them we fed them to the Ocelot, as it helps her learn how to hunt for live pray. Later that morning my task was to build a wall round the turtle nests and to create a roof for part of the enclosure, this is to ensure that when they hatch (which we are expecting any time now) that they will not escape and that they wont get cooked by the sun, which is what happened last year. It was also Chris´s birthday on Monday so we all baked bread, made popcorn and roasted peanuts and watched 40 yr old virgin on the tv in the upstairs part of the lodge.(nice little treat)
I had a lot of fun making signs for Enrique´s museum. Hes a local who makes a living showing tourists how peruvian tribes live. so we built information signs for him to hang up in his museum, very frustrating work as i kept bending all the nails, managed to finish about 3 though. On the way back from observations in the afternoon we came across a nest of 3 baby tarantulas. they are still massive spiders in comparison to the ones we find in our baths at home.
Tuesday night was the highlight of my week. sleeping up on canopy. Me Chris and Joel set out with our mattresses and mosquito nets and walked in the pitch black up to the canopy walkway. The view of the stars was amazing, so lucky we picked a clear night. As we reached the platform we spotted a big porcupine slowly climbing away from us (is came vback later in the night we could hear it sniffing around, luckily it was on Chris´s side so i wasnt too scared.) i slept in the middle for safety hehe. There was also tree rats which enjoyed squeeking pretty loadly right next to us. Didnt really get much sleep, it was so hot i didnt need any covers. In the morning the sunrise looked amazing coming up over the tree tops, il make sure to get a photo of that on here asap.
Other things i got up to this week include planting flowers on a local farmers land, drifting down the river from new farm back to our lodge,(couldnt be bothered walking back so we got in with our clothes on and just floated, took longer but was so much fun)
well must dash people are waiting for me to go to lunch.
update soon love em xxxx
