Hi everyone, This week has been so busy I dont know how to summarise it. The lodge i am staying in is out of this world. Much bigger than i ever imagined and alot more huts than i thought. The animal enclosures are quite near the block of bedrooms so in the morning you can hear all the parrots wolf whistling.There is a patch of grass in the centre where we can play footy or just rest in the hammocks (thats my favourite area). Billy the monkey is quite a comedian, he's stolen my comb and was playing with my clothes that i had put out to dry. Can be annoying at times though! Food is getting a bit repeatitive already, rice for lunch and tea with some sort of mush. Breakfast is normally pancakes. We are given a morning task and an afternoon task, we get 4 hours in the middle of the day when its too hot just to relax. I've enjoyed every single one of my tasks so far. Just a few examples to give you a taste of what we do here is .... Feed the jaguar and the other animals, Observations on a number of different platforms through out the jungle (we just look out for any animals) The best platform was the canopy walkway, its the highest one in south america, the view was pretty amazing. Planting coffee beans at the new farm, Training Donkeys, riding them down jungle paths, this was the funniest, nearly crashing a cart which i was sat on into many trees. Painting tar and petrol onto wooden planks so they wont rot, and finally building a hut on stilts, balancing on the roof hammering nails in. This was so hot as it was at new farm where there is no shade from trees. A bush master snake, the deadliest around, was found asleep near the animal enclosures yesterday morning, Carlos a Peruvian that works at the lodge had to chop its head off otherwise it could have killed one of us. The body twitched for over an hour afterwards. On a nicer note, we've been having a number of bbqs and parties as different volunteers are leaving soon, so theyv been great fun. Actually going out to a bar tonight in town for a Birthday. Sorry my entries are so long, i have to cram in a weeks worth of stuff in each entry. Lots of love Em xx
