Emilie's Travels
Hey,
To start on a bad note i had my purse stolen from me last weekend. just a pickpocket, i was with 5 guys and they decided to pickpocket me out of us all. Not a good start to the week, managed to get everything sorted though so its all good.
Not done much work this week at the lodge. We had several new voluteers arrive last weekend so a number of trips were planned for us. On the monday we went across the river to a tribal farmer (Enrique) He showed us all how they traditionally live just from using what the jungle provides. The nest day we travelled back over to see Enrique who then spent the day showing us how to make a bow and arrow. We all made one ( made mine miniture so it would be easier to post home). It was such hard work in the burning sun hacking away at a log which then some how turned into a bow. Alot of fun but i sliced my hand open, chopped the tip of my finger nearly off and cut my trousers. I think i need to be more careful when using a machete.
On wednesday a hike through the forest was arranged. We trekked for 3 hours and arrived at alittle lake which was surrounded by Orchids. We had a chance to canoe in it, however camen live in the water so i didnt fancy staying in long. Did get to see one aswell in the river just outside our lodge, it was happily just sitting on a log (about 2m long).
Thursday and friday i actually had to work, cutting flowers to sell at the market, finishing off the guinea pig enclosure and digging many holes for some planting which will take place later in the year.
The lodge has an area of grass with footy posts and seeing that it rained on thursday and so it was cooler, 5 of the lads played a match against the Peruvian staff. Seeing that the peruvian staff are about 40 years old and the lads 18 you would expect the staff to lose badly, but they did well. Was a very good game, the lads won 8 - 7 in the end.
3 of my friends are leaving this week so we had a pool party saturday night. There was a huge tropical thunderstorm, amazing lightning forks across the sky as we played waterpolo in the pool at the hotel.
Well best go, im sure Il be working really hard this week to make up for last week.
Love em xxx
