Very early morning once again. the first buses for machu pichu leave at 6 and we were told that this is the bets time to go as there is no tourists and there is the eerie feeling at the site as the clouds are low, creating a sppoky mist. The bus took around 30 minutes to snake its way up the mountain side. Once there you have to pay to get in, this is where my ISIC finally came in use. The people bahind the information desks were vey rude and not helpful, ive found that alot in Peru. Much more different to customer services you get in US or the UK.
Once we´d entered the reserve it was a short but took us forever climb to get to the beginning of the ruins. we chose to take the red path which is the long version, which takes you through nearly all the ruins. You can wonder all over, just not on top of the ruins obviously. The little peak you see to the left in the picture next to the main Machu Pichu peak, is climbable. we didnt have time to go up there and the views from other parts of the site were spectacular enough for us. it was very misty till about 10 in the morning so we wondered around looking at the ruins then as it cleared up we took some nice photos. While we waited for it to clear we stood around near the Llamas. My friend phil pretended to put his arm round one tht was sitting down. It jumped up and started charging at us we ran out the way screaming then it ran off to play with all the females All the other toursits ran over to watch , we were just like ahh so walked off to the next ruins which happened to be the main gate. As we were posing for a photo (seen in the machu pichu album)the very same llama came running down the steps towards us it went for Sarah all frisky. such a funny moment, luckily sarah has it all on film.
We had another Inca kola moment, just before it started to rain. there was a film crew there from ´the search´We will be on tv on january 7th or 12th. Heading back to the bus when we´d had enough of the rain. Got the train all the way back to Cusco in the evening. Will be staying here till tuesday. See a few more ruins before heading off to Puno the small town on the edge of Lake Titicaca.
