Emilie's Travels
Hey,
Well im back into civilisation. Got back last night from my little camping trip in the rainforest. After our mini olymics which i didnt win (i won the limbo round) we set off for the river, via a very bumpy dirt track on the back of a truck. It was a 3 day boat ride up stream to get to the Macaw clay lick. Each night we would camp along the river bank, first night was on a beach, and the two other nights where in the jungle. I slept in a tent all three times mainly because of the cold and the insects. Some crazy people slept just under a mozzy net. We had a few stops along the way up the river, like we stopped at a little river and went swimming in a water fall (felt like i was in a herbal essence advert).
Animals i have seen along the way include, camen, giant guinea pigs, monkeys (which caused chaos in our camp), and then of course thousands and thousands of Macaws and Parrots. We eventually got to the Macaw clay lick on Friday morning, having got up at 5 in the morning, as dawn is the best time to see the birds. Sitting in bushes, might i add filled with insects, for two hours with a pair of binoculars watching swarms of birds flap around. Was an amazing sight!!
I think i can happily say i am glad to be off that boat. wooden seats for four days straight is not enjoyable (it only took one day to get back to the city as we were traveling down stream then).
I will be going to Taricaya which is the lodge in the jungle where my project is, on monday. Im sure il have plenty of stories to tell you all next week about the enclosed jaguar they have there, and the little monkey called Billy. Anywho its nice to hear from you all on my message board. keep updating me on whats happening back in sunny old England. Lots of love xxx
p.s. Il post all my photos next weekend, It takes too long to download them all individually, so i will have them all done for next week.
