6/4 Wednesday Ibiri Auzoa to Markina 19km
Yesterday I learnt as saying about the Camino: The Way provides what you need not what you want. I wonder why I needed the extra 2km detour yesterday?
Today, after a good night’s sleep I enjoyed muesli with banana and strawberries! Then, last to leave, it was a stiff 3km ascent to start the day. Grey, occasional light drizzle and interestingly now limestone under foot. It was mostly woodland with a few pastures all day today.
Mostly walked alone but bumped into Mira and his dog having a siesta after lunch (sandwich en route). The sun found me and now the path was roughly contouring around hills. I met two Croatian women who had been in the hostel last night and walked with them most of the way down into Markina-Xemein which was my planned stop for the night.
I stopped at a cafe to chill and met an Argentinian guy doing the Camino, Also with his dog - a border collie. Because he had no English I actually got to chat in Spanish today!
It looks like my recent friends are staying somewhere else tonight so I may have a quiet evening although I do need to head out and find some bread for tomorrow‘s lunch.
