13/5 Friday Lugo to Castrelo 19km
I was last to leave, just behind Wendy but didn’t see or hear Heike depart.
There were lots of bars back towards the city centre but I decided not to backtrack and headed out under the city wall and down to the river where I found breakfast.
The Camino followed the river briefly but then climbed up the far valley side to higher ground. Whilst the countryside remained pretty the walking was almost totally on or next to the road. Generally, the roads were quiet but not much variation for the feet!
At As Seras, after 10km, there was a converted garage which served as a DIY cafe with cold and hot drinks machines. I took a coffee and chatted to three young Mexican girls who were doing a Camino totally pre-booked ahead.
A little further on was the brief respite of a woodland trail but it was soon back along the road to San Román where a found a taberna for a cold drink. I also found Wendy just heading off and Patrick who was happy to sit at chat. We both though Patrick and I had booked into albergues about 1km apart but it turned out we were staying in the same one - the O Cándido at Castrela. Good to have some evening company.
