9/5 Monday Castro to Fonsagrada 21km
Last night we chatted to Wendy, a classical singer from Holland. I enjoyed fish and rice for dinner followed by a chocolate and almond ice cream!
In the morning, I was awake at 6:45, just in time to see the sunrise. Breakfast with coffee and muesli which was a treat. Heike drank coffee and headed off without anything to eat as normal. I’m sure I’ll see her tonight.
The morning light at 8 am was just glorious as I headed off on a long continual climb, for about two hours, to well over 1000m and more wind farm territory. At 10:30 I took a snack on top of the ridge.
I met Viviana here, from north of Rome and now living in Lisbon. She had started early this morning from Grandes but was walking at a similar pace so we walked and chatted together for an hour as we entered Galacia and then found a cafe at Barbeitos.
The cafe served very good ham in the bocadillo. Refreshed I continued alone after a chat to Wendy who arrived as I was eating.
I was surprised there was only 6km to go so I must be walking well after resting yesterday. The sun was hot after lunch and the last stretch up to Fonsagrada was very steep, climbing 300ft in a km.
I was fixed up and clean in the Albergue by 3:30pm so will have plenty of time this evening to stock up on food and toiletries. No food in the albergue but Heike has a recommendation for a restaurant in town from our Spanish friends that we met at Cornellena.

Lynn Pickles About how far are you walking each day...and do you typically walk from 8ish to 4ish with a break for lunch?
