On leaving Alice Springs we stopped the night at Conners Well, 80km north of Alice. The next morning we started our day in shorts and singlets as the weather has certainly warmed up. The communication has improved up this way since last year. We kept seeing these phone signal signs but as we would drive past our phones showed no reception, so we decided to stop and check one out. You have to place your mobile phone on a stand, make your call and put phone on speaker, all under a dish.
We found fuel at Wycliffe Well at $1.10 per litre, yet fuel stops both north and south bound were selling at $1.75/l. Driving through Tennant Creek, we couldn't believe how green the roadsides were, there is heaps of water on the sides of the road. We then stopped the night at Attack Creek which is 47km north of Three Ways.
The next morning we had an easy day driving into Elliott and then into Longreach Waterhole.
We chilled out for three days at Longreach Waterhole, this is an oasis after the long days we have had driving, a must stop over for anyone travelling up this way.
Wednesday we left Longreach Waterhole and headed towards Daly Waters Pub for yet another great night, we had the Barra and beef dinner again which was very enjoyable
The next day was an easy days driving up to Mataranka, spending the afternoon at Bitters Springs. Then we stopped the night at WW11 Sterling Mill camp, then back into Bitters Springs in the morning for yet another swim, great way to start the day. We then drove onto Katherine were we stopped to fill up with fuel and water and catch up on some shopping. Before leaving town we thought we would go for another dip at the Katherine Hot Springs, only to find a sign stating a croc had recently been sighted, so needless to say we didn't go for a dip.
We stopped the night beside the Edith River and met a lovely young German couple, who camped near us. Again we started the day having a swim at Edith Falls and with the V8's on at Winton we were driving towards Adelaide River to get reception for the qualifying and then onto Batchelor to watch the V8 race, on the iPad via foxtell on the go. The day ended at a WW11 Hospital site about 80kms south of Darwin, where the mossies came out in masses for a feed.
Sunday we arrived in Darwin and are staying with Keith and Wendy, who have kindly lent us their car to get around town. We have caught up with washing, shopping and did our money exchange for our overseas trip to Vietnam. We had dinner at the Casino on Monday night with Keith and Wendy and many of their friends. Dinner was a smorgasbord for only $12.50, great value for a seniors meal and yes we both got seniors prices.
Alan had to go and see a Doctor as he had Gastro for three days and it was taking a toll on him. After the Doctors we went out to Berry Springs and caught up with Liz and Paul, it was like we had only seen each other day, yet its been years since we last caught up with each other.
Today is our last day in Darwin were we are packing and getting organised for our holiday and updating the blog. Our next update will after the 12th of June when we arrive back in Darwin.
