We awoke early to the sound of road trains driving past. We must have been on the main jet flight path as well as we also heard them overhead. After breakfast we expected to be driving on gravel fairly soon. Our first stop was not too far down the road. It was Yuendumu and we topped up the fuel tanks for the long haul across the Tanami. We had a leisurely breakfast and then went to look at the Glen Helen Gorge. After our marathon effort yesterday none of us were too keen to walk very far. Luckily for us it was under 10 minutes away and we made our way there across a mainly dry river bed. It was a very pretty spot and the Finke River was quite chilly. It was so very windy there but was lovely to wake up right on the beach in the middle of nowhere. We left fairly quickly the next morning due to the wind and headed into Cooktown for a wander around and some photo taking. Left Cooktown via Battlecamp Road and headed towards Musgrave.
