Day 2 in Cooinda. Slow start to the morning, then checked out the cultural centre. Very informative centre, highlighting the local Aboriginal culture and the history of Kakadu. Reluctantly left Gunlom camping area, setting off to explore more of Kakadu. We stopped into to check out Barramundi Falls. As we arrived, a ranger told us we were not allowed in as there had been a crocodile siting on the boardwalk that morning. She was happy for us to have a look, but we had to come back with the ranger. It was a spectacular walk through the thickest bush/ rainforest we have seen yet. Explored the most amazing place today! A half hour fairly steep walk up to the top of the waterfall, into the most amazing natural setting I have seen!! There was a series of plunge pools, and the ultimate infinity edge pool-overlooking the valley. All the pools were sandy bottomed-they looked man made, but even still more beautiful than any resort could be. Photos couldn't capture it! We packed lunch and ended up swimming and exploring a fair way up the pools! ...

On our way to Kakadu National Park-excited- and ready to explore. Stopped at Mary River roadhouse for lunch and pay permit fee, then headed down a very corrugated, rocky road ( approx 10km/hr the last 9kms of the trip!) After a very comfortable night at the Big 4 in Katherine, we headed off to explore Katherine Gorge. The area is full with bats at the moment, so we were unable to camp at the gorge-too stinky. We hired a canoe, and took turns paddling around the first gorge. Spectacular rock walls, amazing flora and cool water. Very relaxing way to explore!
