Reluctantly left Gunlom camping area, setting off to explore more of Kakadu. We stopped into to check out Barramundi Falls. As we arrived, a ranger told us we were not allowed in as there had been a crocodile siting on the boardwalk that morning. She was happy for us to have a look, but we had to come back with the ranger. It was a spectacular walk through the thickest bush/ rainforest we have seen yet. We all felt a little nervous as the creek looked like it would make a lovely home for a crocodile. We made it to the main creek crossing, then the ranger (with a gun!) asked us to turn back. More than happy to oblige-but apparently the gorge itself is gorgeous-one to add to the "next trip" list.
Headed into Cooinda, and decided to camp at the Cooinda Lodge. It is only $16/night more expensive than the National Park-and it has lush green grass, a laundry, bar (we were out of beer), and a massive swimming pool and playground!! All the things to keep kids and grown ups happy.
Of course we spent the afternoon enjoying the facilities......a few cocktails by the pool, fun with the kids. Decided to cook dinner in the camp kitchen-we ended up, all 10 of us high tailing it back to our campers, as the mozzies nearly carried us away......early night to bed!!
