Sorry all-but I have been clicking on Queensland for my blog locations!! And i cant change it!! Whoops....
Arrived to a lovely campground, jimbulik, in Elsey National Park, for a 3 night stay. Great facilities, and a nice space to call home for a few days. Kids all travelling really well, happy to bush camp, but really happy to have hot showers and grass to play on! The Roper River flows near the camping area, and we spent our afternoons swimming and jumping off the pontoons into the river. We also spent time exploring the creek, with waterfalls and warm swimming holes to enjoy.
Our first day trip from the camp ground was to Bitter Springs. A warm, flowing creek, fed by springs. It was so relaxing to float down stream, and a great work out to swim up stream! My camera went flat-so no photos of that one. A shame, as it was a highlight for me. I did borrow Barbs camera and try to catch the golden orb spiders that had webs from one side of the creek to the other. Was freaky floating on your back and looking up at the spiders and webs!
At night you can hear donkeys calling-bizarre and not what expected! We visited the township of Mataranka, checked out the "We of the Never Never " museum, and delved into the history of Elsey station and the we of the never never story. Barb and I went to the Elsey Station cemetery and site of the original homestead. It was late evening and we were the only ones there, giving us goose bumps and leaving us more intrigued with the lives of the people of this land.
Mataranka hot springs was a nice spot too. Quite commercial , with seating around the swimming area that made it feel like a pool. The kids had a ball snorkelling, and making plenty of noise. Craig thought there was too many people there, swimming in the warm water, and decided it was a grey nomad soup! It was still a beautiful spot, and would have been even more beautiful before it was developed. We ate lunch overlooking the Elsey homestead replica. The replica was made for the movie " we of the never never". The kids were thrilled to be on a movie set!
Craig and John tried again at fishing, they walked for 3hours, fished for 1/2 hr, and didn't end up with any keepers!! Hopefully they will have better luck soon!
