OMG what an adventure we had yesterday, we drove in from the northern end of the famous Gunshot Creek Crossing via the Old Telegraph Track. Just getting there was stressful enough for me! Ch's been going great with his 4wheel driving! Gaining lots of experience n expertise since we set out from Lismore just 3 weeks ago! At Gunshot we couldn't believe what some people were prepared AND capable of doing with their vehicles! We stayed there for ages n watched as 3 different guys did some amazingly scary stuff going over Gunshot, Slingshot n 2 others, one that a guy driving a Landrover 'Troopy' winched himself out of almost vertically. After that entertainment we continued heading north on the OTT until we reached Cockatoo Creek, another challenging crossing (not like Gunshot) but nevertheless a challenge. Ch n Bill waded through then after talking to a couple of others as well they crossed it. We had met a lovely couple from Mildura at Gunshot Ck n he offered to talk Ch through the creek as he had a mobile 2way radio. This was Ch's biggest challenge yet with our BT50 n he came through with flying colours! The creek base was made of huge uneven boulders with steep gouged out banks on either side. I was so nervous I couldn't go in the car so Bill went for the 'drive' with Ch. I took photos from the bank on the other side. Our BT50 even with the camper on the back has been going great I'm happy to say! After this adventure we continued on to Fruit Bat Falls n had a lovely relaxing swim in the safe (from Croc's) n refreshing water n 'pools' there. From there we headed for Eliot Falls, our camping destination for the next 2 nights. To get there we had another crossing called Canal Creek. This one was sandy n small rock based but quite deep so the guys put a tarp across the front of the motor so they could creat a bow-wave so they could push the vehicles through without causing any water damage to their motors. It also had a steep very sandy exit bank. I even stayed in the car this time n once again Ch went well!! After all this we finally made camp a bit before 4 o'clock n after setting up we had an explore around the camp, there was Eliot Falls but also the very beautiful Twin Falls n the Saucepan (basically a pool area above Eliot) a nice cruisy night n early to bed after our. Big Day! We were both feel pretty exhausted, slept great now have had a nice day, a couple of swims in Twin Falls n The Saucepan (Vinny you will love it here, the water is so refreshing as well as picturesque),doing this blog, some reading n a nap then cooking dinner, such a tough day! Nice to have stayed put today. We've met so many nice people along the way, here a nice young couple with 2 children from WA, Jared was trying to repair his radiator as he'd put the fanbelt through it when coming through Canal Ck. Ch n Bill gave him a bit of advice but he seemed to be having a go at crimping the hole then soldering it. Fingers crossed for him it holds. The pain for him was that the radiator was only 6 wks old! We also met 3 lovely young guys from Melb who were walking round the camp tracking down the cooking smell which happened to be our lamb casserole that we had on slow cook, think they would have stayed 4 dinner if there'd been enough! As it was they stayed for half an he having a great chat about their adventures.... Really nice 21 the olds. We had a nice slow evening, ended up having a game of Crib with Anne n Bill, Ch n Anne won against Bill n I overall. After dinner we sat around the Campfire for a while that Bill had lit. Another relaxing night's sleep in the bush. The camper bed is pretty comfy which is great. We packed up n then I went for a quick final swim in Twin Falls, am feeling refreshed n ready 4 our day. My only disappointment with this camping ground is that it's a bit grotty with rubbish, a shame people don't take their rubbish with them! It just wasn't as cared for as the other parks we've been to.Today we move on to The Top or almost...
