All packed up n on the road by 10 am, a quick stop at BCF on the way out n now heading north on the Torbanlea Pialba Rd which will join us up to the Bruce Hwy. Another beautiful day here!
After more than 6 n half hrs of driving, past Rockhampton, along the Marlborough Straight, Sarina & onto Mackay where we stayed the night. Got set up n headed to a Tavern to relax, have a nice dinner n watch the most forgettable State of Origin EVER!! Qld were just 2 good, luckily Ch hadn't worn his NSW shirt! Oh well always next yr n hopefully a better outcome! Before heading off we had a drive around the Harbour, quite scenic amongst the industry. Another 5 n 1/2 hr drive from Mackay to Townsville yesterday. A mix of lots of Cane crops growing as well as market gardens n some pretty basic countryside in between. Some places we passed through were Proserpine, Bowen (where Max n Denise spend half of each yr fruit picking), Home Hill n Ayr (where I took the photo of the big long bridge we were passing under!! Got to Townsville bout 4.00ish after a slow trip in, a combination of roadworks n the V8 Supercar preparations that were taking place. We got an unpowered camp site all else in the park was booked out due to the V8 Supercar w/end. The Caravan Park was in a great spot overlooking the Bay n what a HUGE bay it was!! We went 4 a look around as well as to get supplies 4 dinner. We had an unpowered site but was right near the camp kitchen n the amenities. We ended up walking along the waterfront4 over 2 hrs. We walked right along The Strand foreshore which was beautifully done with parks, bbq's n child playgrounds. We had a lovely evening at Townsville, very mild weather, balmy breeze, very pleasant. Ch was talking to a fellow BT 50 owner who was from SA who was heading back Sth after being to the Cape. He gave Ch some advice both about the driving up there n recommended places to visit!!
