We travelled 506 km in total yesterday through very dry countryside displaying many canvases along the way. The best part of yesterday was to see the lovely towns that we visited on our journey, in spite of the drought there was a real sense of pride n care in their towns! Muttaburra was the site of the original find of some dinosaur bones in 1963. Since then the areas of Hughenden, Richmond n Winton have become famous for their historic archaeological animal finds n displays. We'll have to come back on another trip to investigate the 'dinosaur trail'. We had lunch at Aramac, a lovely quiet little town. We can't believe the huge amount of free or low cost camping opportunities there are throughout all of Qld! Barcaldine was a beaut town with so much history. We visited the Tree of Knowledge n had a walk around. Along our journey today we saw some Brolgas, Kangaroos, Camels, Emus n Cattle drovers with a large herd in the 'long paddock' as well as thousands of road kill kangaroos along the roadside! Blackall was our destination for the night n was a beaut little town to stay in. It has Artesian Hot Springs that are very popular. Unfortunately we got to Blackall a bit late after our big day of driving to try out the Springs so will have to wait til Mitchell to give that a go. The Woolscour is the only wool washing plant left fully intact in Australia, truly 'living' history! The C/Park was a great spot to stay in, even had live music for Happy Hour as well as traditional country cooked baked dinners with damper cooked in the Camp Kitchen. We had a nice relaxing evening. Today we are now heading towards Mitchell after visiting the site of the Black Stump n doing a drive by of other points of interest in town. We are now driving along more long straight stretches of road but the positive is all bitumen today!
