July 30,31 thru August 1,2,3, and 4, 2017
Temp: high 40's to mid 50's all week
Saying for the day: Be sure to taste your words before you spit them out.
Excitement on the 31st: A Navy amphibious landing craft came off of the USS Anchorage, anchored offshore 10 miles - too big to come into the docks at Newport. The landing craft came into the Marina and performed a heavy equipment exercise - they take heavy armored trucks off and put front end loaders and other large equipment on the landing vessel. This was an exercise for emergency preparedness in the event of a Tsunami or hurricane.
8/1 - Fresh tuna on the grill - oh my!! How delicious that turned out - more tuna Saturday with Clay and Charlie.
8/3 - Real foggy out today, we can hear the fog horn from our site, right across the bay from the Coast Guard. Also see the amber blinking light, warning the fishermen going out about the fog at the bar. Clay comes to eat with us today.
8/4 - Off to Depoe Bay where we get to see some baby whales spouting and swimming in the bay, gorging on Misad Shrimp. July and August are the months the whales come this close to shore. We also see an adult breeching.
Then we head to Lincoln and some good salmon, crab strips, and clam chowder at Mo's and then off to the Mall. A fun, but long day.
