Caught bus from Vaduz Post to Sargans. We then caught an express train to Zurich Hauptbahnhof before catching a connecting train to Interlaken Ost. Due to technical problems the train was limited to 90km/h between Bern and Interlaken Ost meaning we arrived in Interlaken 10 minutes late. We then caught a regional train to Grindelwald which was not included in our Eurail Pass so we had to pay 14.80 CHF for the journey.
After arriving in Grindelwald at 2pm in light snow. We walked across the road to our hotel, Hotel Bernerhof. We were offered the choice of a renovated room at the back or a room with a balcony and view of the Eiger mountain. We chose the room with the balcony which was quite old and in need of some work but was comfortable and had a good view of the mountains and town. The low cloud and snow meant the view was not as good as it could have been.
We went for a walk up the main street of Grindelwald to get orientated. Found a supermarket and bought some supplies before stopping for a coffee at Central Hotel Wolter which was next to our hotel. Decided to go ice-skating of the Sports Centre which we had free access to with our visitor card which was included in our hotel price. The ice-skating for the general public closed at 3.45pm which meant that we could only skate for 10 minutes so we decided to give it a miss.
Rested at our hotel room for a while before going out for dinner at Central Hotel Wolter. Ate in the outside terrace under the heaters which was good. Food was great and not too expensive.
Returned to hotel which had the heating working after they ran out of oil for the heaters. Bed at 10pm.
