After arriving in Sargans after a picturesque train trip through the mountains from Zurich we caught a Liechtenstein bus to Vaduz Post. The bus took as through Balzers and Triesen in the south of Liechtenstein before arriving in central Vaduz. We had bought a 10CHF Wochenkarte for the Liechtenstein Bus which gave us unlimited use of the bus system for a week.
We walked up the main pedestrian street in Vaduz, Städtle, arriving at our hotel, Hotel Residence. We were welcomed at the hotel by the reception staff and the manager as "Mr and Mrs Honeymoon" which was great. The staff helped us with our bags up to our suite, the Prince Maximillian suite! The room was awesome with a spa, balcony and a free bottle of French champagne.
We settled in and then took some pictures of the views from our hotel room balcony and windows. Great views of the city and the surrounding mountains.
We got some sandwiches from a nearby bakery for lunch then took some pictures of Vaduz city. Next we got the Liechtenstein stamps in our passports for 2CHF each before starting the climb to Vaduz Castle which overlooked the city. The climb was very steep in parts and tiring but worth the effort for the spectacular views over Vaduz and the surrounding mountains.
Walked back down to the city and went to the post office to get some stamps for the postcards to send back home. We walked past St.Florin's Cathedral and the Government Building on our way to the Rheinpark Stadium, Liechtenstein's national stadium. We then returned to the hotel for a rest.
We set our for dinner at 6pm and ate at a pizzeria near the hotel which was reasonably priced but we felt a little uneasy as we were the only people in the restaurant. We returned to the hotel to make use of the spa before retiring for the night.
