We arrived in Bruges at 10.30am and bought a city map with walking guides from the Tourist Information Centre.
We followed one of the walking tours from the city map starting at Minnewater. We walked around the Minnewater Park towards the Begijnhof. Arrived at the Begijnhof and wandered around the peaceful gardens with the old houses surrounding them. Continued on the walking tour to the Church of Our Lady dating from the 13th to 15th centuries. Walked further to St.Saviour's Cathedral which is Bruges' oldest parish church dating from the 12th to 15th centuries.
Eventually, we arrived at the Markt, one of Bruges' main town squares. The main building in the square was the Belfort. We decided to have lunch at the Markt and had some frites from one of the many vans selling them in the square.
After lunch we walked through to the other town square, the Burg. We then walked down to a nearby canal and went on a 30 minute canal cruise. We had great views of the buildings and bridges despite the crowded boat. Photos were hard to take as you had to hold the camera above your head and hope for the best!
After the cruise was over we walked back towards the Minnewater stopping at the Halve Maan Brewery where we each had a glass of Straffe Hendrik before walking to the train station and catching the train back to Brussels.
