Left Vienna at 10.20am and passed through some scenic country including snow-capped mountains as we entered Salzburg at 1.50pm.
We walked out of the station on our way to our hotel when an old lady approached asking if we spoke English. We told her we did and she asked if we were looking for a hostel. We told her that we had already booked accomodation at Austrotel. She screwed her face up and said that it was expensive and her hostel was much cheaper, we informed her we had already paid for our accomodation and she started cursing about why we would prepay at this time of the year and then stormed off muttering to herself in German...interesting!
Walked down to Mirabellplatz but could not see our hotel. Finally saw a sign indicating that the entrance was around the corner. Checked into our room at Austrotel and then booked ourselves on the Sound of Music Tour for the next morning.
We decided to go for a walk around the city. First stop was the Mirabell Gardens which had a maze-like rose garden, fountains and a great view of the castle. Continued on over the river to the Old Town.
Saw the Cathedral, St.Peter's Church and the graveyard. The catacombs were closed so we missed out on looking inside. We walked back through the town past Mozart's Birthplace and Mozart's Residence.
Walked back to our hotel, rested and then set out in search of some dinner. We ate at a pizza restaurant before walking back to our hotel for a coffee at the bar and then to our room for some TV and rest.
